Prospect Heights is a neighborhood in the northwest part of Brooklyn, New York. The traditional boundaries are Flatbush Avenue to the west, Atlantic Avenue to the north, Eastern Parkway – beginning at Grand Army Plaza – to the south, and Washington Avenue to the east. Compared to other Brooklyn neighborhoods, Prospect Heights is relatively small but is well known for its tree-lined streets, historic buildings and outstanding train access to Manhattan. Prospect Heights has seen rapid changes with the housing stock now offering a combination of older prewar buildings, classic turn-of-the-century brownstone renovations, and newly built luxury condominiums.
The central portion of the neighborhood consists mostly of brownstone-style residential rowhouse buildings, some built as early as 1890 with some blocks such as Lincoln and St. Johns Place between Underhill and Washington Avenues, include larger multi-unit apartment buildings. A number of new condominium developments are also under construction in many parts of the neighborhood including 904 Pacific Street and 591 Washington Avenue. Old school bakeries and factory spaces line Pacific Street from Vanderbilt Avenue to Carlton Avenue with some of those properties being renovated and converted into residential lofts.
Prospect Heights is a neighborhood where natural and cultural attractions flourish.
Along the southern boundary, Eastern Parkway, from Grand Army Plaza to Washington Avenue, luxurious buildings line the north side of the parkway, and the south side features the Brooklyn Public Library, Mount Prospect Park (the second highest point in Brooklyn), the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Brooklyn Museum. The Barclays Center, home to the NBA's Brooklyn Nets basketball team, is located in the northwestern corner of the neighborhood at Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues. The Vanderbilt, designed with the casual comfort of a neighborhood hangout, features seasonally-inspired New American bar fare and emphasizes seasonal, local, and quality ingredients. Piquant on Flatbush Ave. brings a unique flavor and catering to Brooklyn with modern cuisine of the American Southwest. Check out The Beared Lady on Washington Ave. for incredibly unique cocktails, a great beer selection and raw bar. Located at the northwest entrance to beautiful Prospect Park, Grand Army Plaza is Greenmarket's flagship Brooklyn market, and the second largest market in the program, behind Union Square. This community destination allows residents to buy from the vast assortment of farm fresh products, and to participate in programming and cooking demonstrations that take place every Saturday all year long.
